I remember the Pepsi cans! At my local mall they also had an episode 1 Pepsi machine right by the theater. That machine sat there until the mall ended up like most the malls in America. I always wondered what they did with that after the mall got shut down. It's weird to be nostalgic for a vending machine but hey, here we are.
I get it. I've had an idea for a while to try to do a deep on dive some of the weirder Ep 1 merch out there. As we've gotten farther away from 1999 and other huge franchises like the MCU have risen up, we've collective forgotten what a huge cultural event Ep 1 was.
I had an entire set of the Pepsi cans, unopened. They sat in my bedroom closet at home for like 10 years before my mom asked me to take them. Ended up dumping them all. Crazy the things we thought were going to be worth something someday.
I remember waiting for HOURS to download that trailer over a dial up connection. I must have rewashed the first 10-20 seconds 100 times before the whole thing downloaded.
The fun of trailers on dial up. I very distinctly remember downloading the trailer for Trainspotting in the high school computer lab my junior year and it taking at least a class period to download. There was something called the "world wide web" on a handful of computers. It was exciting!
