The Death Star Human Resources Department Newsletter: August 30, 2024
Quick hits and lots and lots of links
Hello there
Good morning and welcome to the August 30th edition of the Death Star Human Resources Department Newsletter. It’s a pretty quick newsletter today. I mentioned a few weeks ago that things are busy right now in our galaxy. And outside of maybe Star Wars: Outlaws or the never-ending discourse around The Acolyte, there’s not much new happening in the galaxy far, far away. So this week is just mostly a link round up of stories and a few of the usual sections, and I’ll be back next week after the Death Star laser is charged up with a full newsletter.
As always, thanks for reading and sticking with me. Now, let’s get to it.
This Is Where The Fun Begins
I really meant to share this one while the Olympics were going on.
In the interest of complete disclosure, I did not watch any of the Olympics other than a few minutes of Gojira playing at the opening ceremony. But I did keep up with the memes. That’s how you do the Olympics when you’re Extremely Online.
News From the HoloNet - Expanded Universe
Look, it will always be the Expanded Universe to me. I’m not having any of this “Legends” nonsense. This week I’ve got a Wookiee-sized number of stories for you to read. There will be a quiz next week, you’ve been warned.
“I’m going to be transparent and say it’s not a huge shock for me,” Stenberg begins in the video. “There has been a rampage of vitriol that we have faced since the show was even announced, when it was still just a concept and no one had even seen it. That’s when we started experiencing a rampage of, I would say, hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred and hateful language towards us.”
New Details Emerge About Why ‘The Acolyte’ Was Cancelled
It cost $630,000 for every minute of screen time – Given that The Acolyte was estimated to have a $180 million budget before this, and eight episodes are about 40 minutes long on average, that would actually push it closer to $200 million.
Star Wars Fans Decipher Secret Message Teasing Ahsoka Season 2’s Plot
Once the translation was posted fans immediately began attempting to decipher what exactly the message actually meant in the context of Ahsoka, with many focusing on who the “three” are. Fans seem to have come to the joint conclusion that the most likely answer is that the three are the Ones, also known as the gods of Mortis.
Bay Park Cinema to screen 'Star Wars' film dubbed in Ojibwe language
Bay Park Cinema in Ashwaubenon is set to host screenings of the movie, which was dubbed in Ojibwe (Anishinaabemowin) for the first time ever. Officials say it's part of effort to revitalize the Ojibwe language.
Star Wars fans lose it as Luke Skywalker returns in new series
"Still reeling from the events of Insurgency Rises, Luke must seek out a relic that could hold clues to the future of the Jedi Order!
Luke Skywalker and a new friend find themselves cornered! Can two Imperial powerhouses find common ground against the nascent New Republic?
Star Wars Outlaws is a perfectly fine open-world game set in an incredible universe
How much you enjoy your time with Outlaws will depend on how much you want to live this fantasy. The underworld of Star Wars has always had some of the universe’s most interesting stories and characters, and here’s a chance to experience it all firsthand.
Why Star Wars Isn't Making The Mandalorian Season 4 (Yet)
Currently, there are quite a few possibilities for Din and Grogu's future, and it's not clear what Star Wars' plans are for the television side of The Mandalorian. Presumably, the performance of The Mandalorian & Grogu will have quite a bit of influence on the fate of The Mandalorian season 4. If the movie is a success, then Din and Grogu's story will almost surely continue. It's not clear if it will continue in film or television, though, as Dave Filoni also has an untitled Mandalorian movie in the works that may become the new focus after The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Not-your-usual Star Wars exhibition comes to Norwest art gallery
The big picture: "Return of the Start," which began this month and is on display through Oct. 27 at Norwest in Grandmont Rosedale, explores Star Wars and its diverse fan base.
It offers a "fresh perspective" on the franchise, with works that bring together African traditions, exploration and "visions of alternative worlds," according to Norwest's social media posts.
Disney celebrating John Williams in new documentary this fall
Now, the celebrated composer is the subject of a new documentary film, Music by John Williams, which is scheduled to premiere in select theaters and on the Disney+ streaming service this fall. Via StarWars.com, AFI (the American Film Institute) announced the film will premiere on October 23rd at the AFI Fest. After a limited theater release, it will launch on the streaming service on November 1st.
This Day in Star Wars History
Two births and two releases that happened on August 30th to mention.
Nalini Krishan was born in 1977. She played fallen then redeemed Jedi Barriss Offee on the big screen in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.
The Force Awakens actress Jessica Henwick was born in 1992. Henwick auditioned to play Rey but when she didn’t get the part, J.J. Abrams wrote the Jessika Pava character for her.
The second season of Rebels was released on DVD. I always say Rebels is a way better show than it has any business being.
Open world and underworld game Star Wars: Outlaws is officially released to the general public today. Any reviews from any readers?
From the Depths of Wookieepedia
It must have been pretty boring for Yoda being stuck on Dagobah all those years, just waiting for Luke or Leia to get their acts together and come find him. Sure, when you’re a Jedi master, you’re going to be pretty zen. But 20something years is along time to just sit and mediate in a slimy mudhole. Thankfully for Yoda, he had something to keep him entertained. The Earth-rock.
No clue what Yoda did with the Earth-rock? Did it come from Earth? Did he tell Luke that his geode must be acknowledged?
That’s it for this week. If you like what I’m doing, please subscribe. I’ll catch you next week, and may the Force be with you.
Good stuff Jeff, it’s always a pleasure to wake up and see your posts on Friday. Keep it up sir and have a good week👍🏻
Thank you for your positivity! As someone who once grew up with the OT, and took joy in it, I never could have predicted the dark and cynical atmosphere surrounding SW now. But then, I never could have predicted this dark and cynical culture. I use SW to unwind. I don't analyze it like I analyze other movies and shows. And if I didn't like most of the material, I would not be watching. I thought that Rise of Skywalker was very disappointing; my solution is to not watch it again.
